Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programme

Pulmonary rehabilitation is a specially designed programme for individuals with pulmonary diseases. Our physiotherapists help you to understand your condition, provide methods to cope with your condition, promote and maintain improvements in physical abilities.

This programme is beneficial to patients who have:
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Asthma
  • Cystic fibrosis

Many patients with respiratory disorders are physically deconditioned due to shortness of breath on exertion. This will consequently further limit their activities. Exercise is an effective and potent intervention that lessens the development of functional impairment and disability. The beneficial effects of exercise occur mainly through adaptations in the musculoskeletal and cardiovascular systems that in turn reduce stress on the pulmonary system during exercise.

Both inpatient and outpatient :

  • Improve exercise capacity
  • Improve quality of life
  • Minimize muscle wasting from prolonged corticosteroids treatment
  • Reduce hospitalization
  • Reduce respiratory symptoms
  • Reduce anxiety
  • Assist return to work and leisure activities
  • Chest physiotherapy
  • Aerobic exercise
  • Resistance training
  • Stretching exercise
  • Inspiratory muscle training
  • Education
  • Coping strategies
  • Clinical exercise testing for guiding patient's return to work

A referral from your physician is required to participate in this programme.
