What is sarcopenia?


According to information from department of health
- muscle mass reaches maximum level at age of 20-30, then gradually decreases
- according to research: 4.7% decrease (male) and 3.7% decrease (female)
- Muscle strength decreases faster
- every 10 years: 14.5% decrease(male) and 11.8% decrease(female)
- Aged >70 VS young adults
- 45%(male) and 37%(female) loss in muscle mass

Is sarcopenia common?
According to information up to mid 2022 from Hong Kong government
- Total population: 7,291,600
- Aged >60 = 29.4%
- >2,100,000
- there are estimated ~200,000-300,000 people aged>60 may have sarcopenia in Hong Kong
How does sarcopenia affect your life?
Skeletal muscle loss that occurs with aging, with increase in fat content

Why do i have kyphosis and become shorter?
loss or weakened trunk muscle is one of the main reasons
e.g. semispinalis capitis and splenius capitis of the neck longissimus dorsi, iliocostalis and latissimus dorsi of the back
Therefore, it is very important to train up these muscles.
